»Hey, that’s
my charging station!«
In November 2024, ZEIT Online published an article entitled ‘Ey, das ist meine Ladesäule!’, in which BEM board member Christian Heep commented on the discussion about the reservation of charging points. Heep emphasised that although reservation options for charging points could be helpful in principle when travelling with electric vehicles, they also harbour the risk of unnecessary blockages. He explained: ‘If an e-driver is delayed by just ten minutes due to the traffic situation or for other reasons, for example, the charging point would be blocked even though another user could already use this short charging time to continue their journey.’
Instead of relying on reservations, the BEM is in favour of expanding the charging infrastructure. Heep emphasised: ‘It makes much more sense to install more charging points and ensure that they are available.’ This discussion emphasises the importance of a well-developed and freely accessible charging infrastructure for the success of electromobility.
