Innovation greets us every day
Since 2009, the German eMobility Association has been committed to promoting electromobility based on renewable energies and strengthening the market environment for low-emission drive concepts. The BEM is primarily a company-oriented association in which manufacturers, retrofitters, suppliers, energy service providers, start-ups, consultants and many other industry players, institutions and organisations meet as equals to exchange ideas about e-mobility solutions, discuss challenges, cooperate and broaden their view of the market.
Innovation, sustainability and a sense of what is feasible are the internal forces within the association that give rise to a sense of community. Almost every day, the participants in the New Mobility sector produce innovations that help to advance humanity and improve what already exists. Many products and solutions have long since reached market maturity and offer hope for a future that harmonises climate and environmental protection, economic efficiency, a fossil-free green economy, a circular economy, social justice, jobs, value creation and prosperity.
In these processes, the macroeconomic interrelationships and an economically viable and socially acceptable proof of concept, which has already been realised in real-world laboratories around the world, are of particular interest. With the realisation that it is feasible and the amortisation period for the necessary investments is manageable. These projects must now be implemented quickly on a large scale, made possible by regulations, promoted accordingly and accompanied by a political will to shape the future. This is the only way to shape the world in the near future in a way that is fit for future generations. This means that by the middle of the century at the latest, humanity must no longer pollute the climate and greenhouse gas emissions must then be avoided or compensated for as far as possible.
This systemic transformation process poses supposedly major challenges for the international community and its economic players. It is therefore logical to work together and across national borders to strengthen the green economy and continue to drive forward an ambitious energy and mobility transition at all levels of politics, business and industry. This requires informed and educated stakeholders who are able to recognise their options for action and thus develop an industrial policy steering effect.
At the levels of technology, knowledge, cognition and finance, industry and politics are already in a position to expand their economic considerations to include a number of aspects and to make them increasingly post-fossil, clean, quiet, energy- and resource-efficient as well as fair and socially acceptable.
The BEM is therefore continuously committed to improving the legal framework and maintains constant communication work in the political arena in order to further promote the existing cooperation with ministries and administration, as well as chambers and educational institutions. As the federal association does not only focus on road transport, its work programme extends from land to water to air. The BEM is a natural partner for renewable energies as well as for digital developments such as the European data platform, artificial intelligence and smart utilisation concepts. This makes it clear that new connections are needed between industries that previously had little contact with each other.
Despite the many global crises that are currently hitting us hard and are responsible for some setbacks, while at the same time increasing the pressure to act enormously, the general zeitgeist and the willingness of the players tends to look good. We are also fortunate to have the resources we need to achieve this transformation. The only thing we don’t have enough of is time. We should therefore never lose sight of the factors of time, action and action and always prioritise the long-term and sustainable perspective, even in the face of acute problems.
