Mobility and green infrastructure as a model for the future

In the context of climate challenges, our metropolises in particular are faced with the task of not only creating sustainable mobility solutions, but also linking these with an intelligent and green infrastructure. Electromobility, supported by a dense network of bidirectional charging points, is a key component of this.
But all this is not enough. Cities must offer intermodal and socially responsible solutions that seamlessly combine e-mobility, public transport, sharing models and active forms of mobility such as cycling and walking. At the same time, the greening of cities is a key factor in improving the urban climate and increasing the quality of life.
Trees, parks and green spaces can store rainwater, improve air quality through their filter function and counteract rising temperatures. Only through a combination of new mobility and green infrastructure can we meet the challenges of the future.
Nevertheless, political determination is lagging far behind the necessary measures. We need to align strategic investments and political framework conditions with the ecological and economic challenges of the future. It is time to look to the future and reduce climate-damaging subsidies in order to invest these funds specifically in sustainable technologies and projects. This is the only way we can compete globally and achieve our climate targets at the same time.
The BEM is therefore calling for clear political measures to promote a sustainable mobility and energy transition. We must be emission-free, connected and green – this is not only an ecological imperative, but also an economic one.
