New EU Transport Commissioner wants to stick to ban on new car registrations
Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the new EU Commissioner-designate for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, has set clear priorities for the mobility transition in the EU. He confirms the goal of no longer allowing new registrations of fossil fuel-powered cars from 2035 and is planning a comprehensive investment plan in 2025 to drive forward solutions for the decarbonisation of transport. Other modes of transport such as rail are also to be taken into account.
Tzitzikostas also sees electric company fleets as a decisive lever for the spread of e-vehicles and is considering binding targets to promote them. With his positioning, he is setting important framework conditions for a sustainable transport policy in the EU.
