The Green Wave: e-mobility is becoming the standard in the hotel industry
The provision of electric charging points has long since become a matter of course in many hotels – they are a decisive factor when choosing a hotel, especially for business travellers. Despite a temporary decline in new registrations of e-vehicles, the demand for charging infrastructure is increasing. Since the beginning of 2025, the Building Electromobility Infrastructure Act (GEIG) has also increased the pressure: hotels with more than 20 parking spaces are now obliged to provide charging points.
Markus Emmert, Chairman of the Federal eMobility Association (BEM), calls on the industry to take on a pioneering role here. Stronger cooperation within the tourism industry is necessary in order to efficiently promote the expansion of the charging infrastructure and avoid possible penalties. Hotels with long overnight stays in particular have favourable conditions for the operation of charging points.
Many large hotel chains have already recognised the potential: Novum Hospitality and Plaza Hotel Group are actively driving the expansion, while service providers such as Wirelane and Lade GmbH support hotels with full-service solutions. They take care of financing, operation and billing, making it easier for hotels to get started.
The trend is clear: hoteliers who want to remain competitive in the future will not be able to avoid electromobility.
