The symbiosis must become even clearer

BEM Board Member Markus Emmert on the close interplay between renewable energy and e-mobility: ‘Climate change has clearly shown us why we need to move away from old industrial policies. The war in Ukraine has made it brutally clear that we need to end our dependence on energy and fossil fuels. And, of course, we need peace in order to make our technical excellence accessible to society.

Now, at the latest, we have certainty for the full expansion of renewable energies such as wind and solar power and their use in electromobility. The two inevitably belong together; volatile energy requires sufficient storage, which it also finds in vehicles, which in turn realise their great environmental benefits when they are powered by green energy. This symbiosis must become clearer to us. The benefits are manifold. In geostrategic terms, the ability to create decentralised, self-sufficient systems is convincing. If you have your own solar system, you don’t need to import fuel.

In terms of environmental policy, the CO2 reduction with the goal of ZERO emissions is convincing. Socio-politically, the prices are convincing, because electricity can be produced much more cheaply than today in the mix. And technically, the doors are opening for vehicle-to-x solutions, data co-operation and smart grids. Let’s go.
